I found this article on the Verge about iOS 7 tips and tricks, and it turned me onto the Twitter integration in Safari. If you go to the Bookmarks and select the ‘@’ tab, you will get a list of all of the links in your Twitter feed. Since so many people and sites use their Twitter as a supplement to an RSS feed, this suddenly gives me a reason to pay attention to Twitter again.
The other new thing in iOS 7 that I’m really happy with is how tightly your browsing history is entwined between devices using iCloud. I set up Fever last night because of bugs I’m not seeing go away in NewsBlur. This morning as I started to type my Fever address into Safari on the iPad and the iPhone, it was filled in automatically, because all of the history from using Safari last night on the iMac is now in the history on my mobile devices as well. Pretty nice.
The thing I’m missing in iOS 7 is being able to Search the Web or the Wikipedia in Spotlight. Maybe I’m the only one who ever used it, but I did use it frequently as a shortcut to googling something, enough that it’s still instinctual on the iPhone. On the iPhone, I can use Siri; on my iPad 2, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Maybe I’ll install Google Search, and see how well that works. With the iPad 1, of course, I’ve still got Search the Web in my Spotlight, because it’s still marooned on iOS 5.
