SOUTHERN IRAQ (Reuters) - U.S. forces advancing toward Baghdad up the Euphrates river ran were halted by Iraqi troops about 45 miles southeast of the city of Najaf in the early hours of Sunday, a Reuters correspondent said.
"The clashes have been going on now for about two hours," Luke Baker said shortly before 3 a.m., saying he was about a mile or two behind the head of the column where the fighting was taking place.
